The Southland!
Jun. 1st, 2022 05:40 amHi All! Big news that I am bursting at the seams to share! We are moving back to the southland - Mobile, Alabama (on the Gulf Coast) specifically. Truthfully, we have been considering for a while. Then, we discovered a gem of a dyslexia Montessori Middle School for Piers and that sealed the deal. He is making great progress with the tutoring we provide for him each month, but this will make it so that his school integrates the reading and writing + math curriculum that he needs to be successful. Also, a close secondary reason for our move, it is time to be near family. My family has grown X 10 in the last 4 years. I want to see my nieces and nephews grow up; I want to spend good years with my dad and bonus mom; I want to see my mom more often; I want to be there for my brother and sister (who bought my childhood home from me) as they welcome their first child in September.
Honestly, I am just as nervous as I am excited. I look at my beautiful home and my gardens that I have nourished with all of my heart and soul. I can hardly believe we are leaving. But, I am comforted by a FB meme that I read recently, "We have not met all of the people who are going to love us yet." I believe and I have faith that change is good. It just leaves a lot of tears and "hope-we-are-making-the-right-decision" thinking in the middle of the night, if that makes sense.
As for details, we are packing up this month in between my crazy work travel. Then, I am headed out on July 1st with the kids. Allyson will stay behind for a couple of weeks to finalize the last minute details here. She will meet us at my dad's house in Louisiana on or around July 20th. Once we get to Mobile, we are renting the house of our friend (who is also the godmother of Piers.) She bought a house with a casita in the backyard. So, she will move to the casita and we will rent her place for about a year until we determine what is next for buying for us. In the meantime, we are keeping our Las Vegas home as an investment property. At this point, the prices are still rising and we can get more than double our rent on the place. So, it works for now.
Please send good vibes our way. I will be leaving this place I have lived and loved for 16 years in exactly 1 month. Whoa, it feels so big.
On a closing note, I turned 49 yesterday. I finally feel some positive momentum on my thyroid health and health in general. It's tough to think about switching doctors with such good progress, but it will be fine, right? Yes, it will.
Could not wait to share! Hope you all are well!
